Introducing Clockworks Analytics’ Energy Insights Dashboards
February 21, 2025

For HVAC professionals, energy analysts, and building managers, the challenge of optimizing energy consumption across complex equipment and building portfolios is daunting. We are excited to announce the release of two new Energy Information System (EIS) Dashboards—Energy Insights – Equipment Energy Benchmarking and Energy Insights – Whole Building Benchmarking that leverage Clockworks’ powerful fault detection and diagnostics (FDD) technology to identify significant energy savings opportunities, provide actionable insights, and help teams maintain continuous commissioning for long-term energy efficiency.
Meet the Dashboards
1. Energy Insights – Equipment Energy Benchmarking
The Equipment Energy Benchmarking Dashboard gives users a detailed breakdown of energy consumption at the equipment level across multiple buildings. By using calculated virtual meters, it aggregates cooling, heating, and electric energy consumption data—especially useful for buildings where metered data is incomplete or unavailable.

Key features include:
- Calculated equipment energy: Aggregates calculated heating, cooling, and electric equipment data to provide a detailed breakdown of building energy loads. This enables users to identify key contributors to overall energy consumption as well as the top energy-consuming buildings.
- Prioritized energy performance issues: A Diagnostics table pinpoints top energy-consuming equipment, helping your team focus on high-impact opportunities for efficiency improvements.
- Seasonal inefficiency spotting: Visualizations compare heating/cooling usage with degree-days, helping teams identify equipment inefficiencies that correlate with weather conditions.
- Energy use breakdowns: Drill down into equipment-level heat, cooling, and ventilation inefficiencies for a clear path to cost-cutting opprtunities.
With this dashboard, HVAC teams can isolate the biggest contributors to energy waste while improving operational efficiency for high-energy assets.
2. Energy Insights – Whole Building Benchmarking
The Whole Building Benchmarking Dashboard provides a high-level overview of energy trends across multiple buildings, allowing users to monitor and evaluate energy use intensity (EUI), utility costs, and carbon emissions. Whether comparing year-over-year energy consumption or drilling into Diagnostics to explore top energy issues, this dashboard simplifies portfolio-wide energy assessment. Additionally, the dashboard calculates energy costs based on user-entered utility rates.

Key features include:
- Multi-utility data visualization: Track electricity, natural gas, steam, and other utility costs for each building in your portfolio.
- Modeled baselines: Compare actual energy usage against past 12-month projections to evaluate performance and spot anomalies.
- Carbon tracking metrics: Gain insights into your carbon footprint and identify opportunities for sustainable energy reduction.
From a portfolio perspective, this dashboard ensures that no part of your energy strategy is overlooked.
Continuous Commissioning Made Easy
Both dashboards are built to support continuous commissioning—an approach to HVAC management that ensures optimal system performance over time. Rather than a once-and-done evaluation, these tools provide the framework for ongoing monitoring. By leveraging Clockworks’ fault detection and diagnostics (FDD) software, users can automatically identify and prioritize inefficiencies, eliminating the need for constant manual oversight.
The result? The ability to ensure operational alignment with your energy goals—including faster resolution of critical issues, more efficient energy consumption, and an assurance that systems are constantly running at their best.
“Fault Detection and Diagnostics really allows us to look at the equipment on the equipment level without having to have people deployed at our 200 buildings across the district. At Denver Public Schools, we have a goal of reducing our energy consumption by 15% from our baseline, and Clockworks’ FDD—provided by our partner LONG Building Technologies—is propelling our ability to reach that goal.”
– Leeanne Kittle, Denver Public Schools
