FDD on the Agenda at the ASHRAE Winter Conference

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is holding its winter conference this weekend in Orlando. As always, there will be exciting and informative seminars during the main sessions and a huge gathering of the buildings industry at AHR Expo. Here at KGS we’re looking forward to some of the behind-the-scenes activities described below.

For those of you not familiar with ASHRAE, the all-volunteer committees that meet before, during, and after the main conference and expo events do the deep and ongoing work on ASHRAE standards, guidelines, and codes. Standards like ASHRAE 90.1, 55, 62.1, or 189.1 may be familiar just by number to most within the community, but numerous other standards and guidelines influence our industry and codes. The volunteers at ASHRAE, especially folks like the ASHRAE Fellows, deserve high recognition for moving the industry forward.

The work we are most interested at ASHRAE includes work on building automation system guidelines incorporating fault detection and diagnostics by SGPC 13, the work by the BACnet committee’s AP Working Group on an information model for building automation systems, and the activities of TC7.5 Smart Building Systems and TC 1.4 control Theory and Applications. Excellent work on aligning metadata taxonomies and ontologies is happening in the AP-WG that will enable many applications over years to come.
